Why is my mouse double clicking on single click

My mouse erratically double clicks when I single click. It does it on both my keyboard mouse and my USB mouse so it isn't the hardware. It did this earlier this year but then the problem went away. Since the last W11 update - 2024-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5041585) it has come back but much worse.I have checked that the drivers are up to date. I have tried changing the mouse settings. I have tried many of the fixes suggested here and elsewhere. Nothing works.It is driving me mad!!!
