Unable to turn on sound on laptop

I hadn't used this laptop in 2 weeks, but all of a sudden the sound refuses to work now that I am on it. Pressing the volume buttons does nothing for me, and the "more sound settings" on Control Panel and "all sound devices" on Settings have no devices for me to connect to. I don't understand why this is happening to me. Please help! :(
