Why wont my files show up when I try to customize my lock screen?

Every time I try to add a new file for the slideshow feature, and open up the file, no files show up. I've tried to redownload the files, to change them to a different file format, I've tried Googling the question, but nothing is working. Maybe this question has come up a lot I don't know I'm new to Microsoft and Windows all together (an avid Chromebook user here..) so if anyone might know why my files aren't showing u please let me know, I'm starting to feel like I'm going in circles here.
