File History backing up from cloud storage, not from laptop hard drive

I want to back up the files on my hard drive to a USB drive using File History . That USB drive has previous File History backups, but the files are backed up from Dropbox, not from my hard drive. What happens to the files on my hard drive if I delete the earlier File History backups on the USB drive (to make room for a new backup)?Thanks for your help.
