Why is my pc recognizing my controller as a storage device?

This has happened before, i simply opened up the controller and plugged in while it was opened up and that worked but i dont wanna do that everytime this happens is there any actual fix? I own a ds4 controller and my motherboard doesnt have bluetooth support, my phone also doesnt see the controller via bluetooth i do not know if this is the pc's fault or the controllers fault.
