how do i activate windows after completing a hardware change

after doing a hrdware change, it says i need to activate windows. troubleshooting just says they werent able to activate windows on this device and to purcahse a genuine copy.... but previously to the hardware change i did have a genuine copy? i dont know how to get this annoying watermark off my screen
