Does the valid Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade also transfer to a buyer of the laptop with the physical Windows 7 license

I just bought an older laptop that has a valid Windows 7 key on the laptop. The operating system was upgraded to Windows 10 during the Microsoft Upgrade Program time period by the previous owner. The previous owner reset Windows 10 back to factory when he sold it to me, so when I start it up it boots to the setup screen (i.e. Country Screen). When I complete setup for Windows 10 will I have a valid Microsoft license for updates... or not? What do I need to do? Thanks!
