Hello all
I have recentrly tried the game Bioshock and since it has problems
running on my pc I then uninstalled it.
Unfortunately it has left Securom on my pc, which I want to get rid
of. I contacted Securom and they gave me the link to a program which
they said would remove Securom except the drm data. ( I downloaded
this program and when I tried to run it I was informed by my antivirus
(AVG Free) :
Threat Detected
While opening file C:\SecuROM_Uninstaller.exe
Trojan horse SHeur.AUGX
I contacted Securom and informed them of this and their reply was
This is a false positive detection. We will contact AVG regarding this
issue. The program was deleted by AVG)
I of course complained and told them that the drm data had been
installed on my pc without my knowledge and permission and I wanted it
removed. All the reply I received was :
The registry entry is needed to save the digital
rights information. If a demo software is protected by SecuROM then it
should only work for, as an example, 30 days. The necessary license is
stored in the registry. Therefore, please understand that it is not
possible to delete such a entry.
This is just not good enough !
I searched google groups for advice on how to remove Securom and found
advice to uninstall the program, delete Securom references from the
registry, Rename ...\Application Data\SecuROM to ...\Application
Data\xxSecuROM and then use a program called DelInvFile to remove the
....\Application Data\xxSecuROM\UserData folder then remove xxxSecuROM
in the usual way.
Running Regedit to remove the Securom entries led to a key
HKET_CURRENT_USER\Software\SecuROM which has a subkey
!CAUTION! NEVER DELETE OR CHANGE ANY KEY
which I am unable to delete, despite logging on as an administrator.
Can anyone help me to get rid of this Securom ?
TIA
Stuart
