Low Storage Disk Space diagnostic message problem for all tasks

In HP Pavilion laptop, I have TWO disk drives (C and D) each 1TB capacity, and an external Seagte Backup Drive F (2TB capacity). I am receiving diagnostic message "Low Disk Space", for all tasks, and messages to delete files to create more storage space, even though Drive D has 980GB space available. In Disk Management Table, Disk D is Disk 0, Disk C is Disk 1, and Disk F is Disk 2. All disks are "online". How can Storage Management be configured to use ONLY Drive D for ALL tasks and not try to look for space in Drive C, which is presumably FULL? Thank you for your answer.
