Auto lock not working

It appears that the auto lock on our family PC has suddenly stopped working. I have done all the obvious things to reset it and have even looked on Microsoft community for other work arounds but nothing works. Is it possible for someone to get into the ‘brain’ of the community and disable it in a more ‘deeper’ way? (Apologies for my lay speak!)
