Need Help Changing windows 10 log in password to reset device

Hi i am trying to change windows 10 log in password to reset my device. When i go to Microsoft online page to change the password it changes but when I'm at the point where it is required to sign in with password it doesn't work. I have tried changing the local password but that doesn't work either, i have no idea what password it needs please help thanks.
