Why won’t my AirPods show up on my laptop?

I just got a new laptop and I wanted to connect my AirPods to it (like I was able to do with my old laptop). I disconnected them from my iPhone, turned them on discoverable and tried to make them paid with my laptop, but they won’t show up on the add a device screen. I tried it a few different times, but nothing is working. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
