Surface Pad connected with external display with Type c to vga converter

Hi folks I have connected my surface pad with external monitor but it always take a long time for external display to turn on. I can hear the plug in sound when I plug in converter cable in surface pad but not able to see anything on external display. I even checked projection settings as well and that also on extended display. Once turn on, it works smoothly. Any guidance on this issue? Many thanks
