Win98 cannot boot up

When I power up my win98, all I can see now is the Logo and a few cycles of
the led light moving left to right and hang, What can I do to get the system
running again? Before this happen I downloaded and install Superantispyware
(run a scan),winzip9.0 and my soundcard driver.TIA

The soundcard driver is a possibility - boot to safe mode and remove it then
try re-starting.

Did superantispyware find anything and remove it?
Were you worried about an infection before installing the above?
If not, the most likely reason is the soundcard driver.
Follow Jeff Richards advice.

1. Try rebooting while rapidly tapping the F8 key to get the Menu, boot to
Safe Mode and check for problem devices. If you believe its your sound card
then uninstall it.
If nothing is found, reboot again while tapping the F8 key and choose
Create Bootlog. After it errors out, reboot to Safe Mode and skip to 3.

2. If unable to get to Safe Mode, do the same procedure, but go into
Command Prompt Only.
At the prompt, type - cd\ - which puts you at the root, then type -
attrib -r -h -s msdos.sys - then open that file by typing - edit msdos.sys -
and add the line BootMenu=1 under the first line under [Options].
Like this:
[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootMenu=1

Save the file, back at the prompt type - attrib +r +h +s msdos.sys. Reboot
and you will find the menu.
Now when the menu comes up choose Create Bootlog, if/when it errors out.
Reboot to Command Prompt Only.

Back at the DOS prompt type - attrib -r -h Bootlog.txt, and open it by
typing - edit bootlog.txt.

3. Search within that file [its in the root of the drive/partition] to the
end. Post the last seven lines of the log [or more if the error is
cumulative {shouldn't take more than ten}, ignore ttf/font errors for now]
so we can help determine the issue.

4. There is another way, by restoring an old registry, so exactly how bad
was this machine, filled with SpyWare/virus or what?

controller and I remove 2 of the items with 'Vortex' but there is "Vortex
AU8810 PCI Audio' which does not allow me to remove it. It says' this device
is part of a multi function device and cannot be removed independently. To
remove this device, select and remove the multifunction parent.'
In any case, after I remove the 2 items and reboot in normal mode, its still
the same, only the logo appears.

note:even in Safe mode I cannot see the content of C dive

In Safe mode and when I choose option 2 to creat a bootlog, after hitting
it, the win98 logo appears and it appears to ahng there.

When I scanned with Superantispyware, it found and remove a nunber of
things. After that I also did an on line Housecall and it removed:-
troj_vundo.avz // troj_avg // troj_dloader.bdi // Adw_Gain.I //Adw_Gain.D and
Adw_Winfixer.F

(my sound card have these markings: "A Vortex AU8810"
and my pc only have ps2 mouse/kb, lan card)

Further to my posting a while ago, I decided to take out the sound card ,
........ and it boot up to desktop normally. It would seems strange then that
after I install the driver, I did test the sound and it seems to work.

I downloaded the sound driver from:-

Does thst means I install the wrong driver?

There are actually two drivers you need to download for full functionality.

The first is the master *Aureal Reference Driver* for Aureal Vortex {Aureal
went out of business years ago}, the 1189 version. Without this, most other
drivers will error. Many after market providers presumed you already had a
master set installed, or their FIRST driver set over which you installed
their update. Often upload/download sites do not realize that the MASTER set
MUST be installed prior to any updated driver set [it may even claim to be a
full version].
There are several sites, but I can not give you a verification for THE site
to download from. Make sure though, you check EVERY download for viruses..

And the final update for that is the 312 version.
