cannot copy to a cd

Just got my computer started back up again after some ails (norton). I wanted
to copy some files from MRY DOCUMENTS (photos) to a CD. Put in a blank CD.
Readied it up. Selected SEND TO. And get this response:

ERROR COPYING FILE
Cannot create or replace (name of file).
Access is denied.

Make sure disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

Do you have Windows 98 or do you have Windows XP? If Windows 98, you'll need
to reinstall your CD burning software.

Is this because of what happened and the way I had to boot up again?? It
changed things?

You cannot simply "send" data to your CD

you must use your CD burning software!!!!

Yes, it's probably because of the crash. Hard to say how much damage
occurred and you're likely to encounter weird things like this.

I suspect it would be good to try a backup Registry. Have you practiced at
all with Ctrl, F8 or F5 keys again since we fixed it well enough to boot?
Try repeatedly tapping the Ctrl or F8 (we don't want F5) and seeing if you
can get the Startup Menu?

Yes, idiot, but there are CD-writing software that set up direct-writing
(packet-writing) ability (InCD, RecordNow), and they add that SendTo link.
If the software has never been installed, that link doesn't exist in Win9x.
That Lutra says it exists and doesn't work suggests to me that the
installation got messed up and needs reinstalling. Of course, packet-writing
software is such a PITA, I would never install it in the first place.

Same here. No packet writing software allowed on this machine (or the
other one)!! Ditto for Norton (except Partition Magic)

OH MYYYYYY......didn't want to start a ruckus. Thanks Gary. I am up and
running now with the CD software and have successfully copied all I needed to
get off of my old dinosaur. So far I haven't encountered any other oddballs
things. But I will do a backup registry....and test those things out. I am
getting a NEW COMPUTER..........like I said this dinosaur is just about
empty. And I am so grateful for the assistance I have received here!!!!!!!

and needed someone to test it on some obsolete NT systems...I stepped to the
plate and did the testing for you.
I don't recall what the outcome was, it was a while back.


Finally. I am not an experienced programmer like you seem to be so if my
knowledge at times seems inadequate
you need to realize that I am nothing but an experimentor who likes to "fool
around" with computers. I've picked up
a lot of knowledge simply by trial and error. FWIW: The last time a wrote a
program was back in 1982. I was moving
away from computers just about the time the entire world seemed to moving
toward them.
