Memory

[XP via WindowsKB.com]

On my new Vista laptop, when I close the lid and leave it for a while, it
loses memory. (NO other applications are running.) When I turn the sleep mode
off, and I shut the lid and leave it for a while, I don't seem to loose any
hard drive memory. Is it the sleep mode doing it? What can I do?

I don't know what you mean by "loses memory." Sleep and Hybrid Sleep have to
be awakened by pressing the hardware Power button. You should also set the
network card properties in Power Management to "allow windows to turn this
device off...." Then Windows will wake the card and reconnect to the Network
when it resumes. Check your Power Options settings in Control Panel. You can
change the settings in any scheme you choose. You should also read the
information in Help on Power Schemes & Options.

Yep, you'd need to clarify what you mean by losing memory. What are the
symptoms of this memory loss?

When I would go into 'Computer', it tells me how many GB the Hard Drive has.
I started with 50 something and now is 44.3

Sleep / Hibernation takes a bit of memory, since RAM is saved to disk. The
file "C:\hiberfil.sys" is possible where some of the memory is
disappearing. If you have 4GB of RAM then that would be roughly right.

Hi,

It sounds like it may be System Restore Points eating up your space.
Run Disk Cleanup and delete all but the most recent one. Look at this
link on step 14 for how.
