How to fix corrupted file or directory?

T

Tom

I am trying to fix a corrupted file or directory because I think that's the
reason why I'm not able to burn a recovery DVD.

The file I am having problems with is:
c:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\1150\Intel32

When I tried opening this folder, I am getting a message that it "is not
accesible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

I tried running a disk check but it won't run. Any suggestions? Thanks

There is no practical way to 'fix' a corrupt file other than replacing
it with a known good copy. Try to reinstall whatever application
installed it.

The good news for you is that that directory is only used when you are
installing a program that uses that version of InstallShield, and most
developers using I/S have the driver engine contained in their setup
packages. Long story short- It is safe to delete that folder, it will be
recreated if/when necessary.

Next thing would be the Disk Check. What issue is occurring that it will not
run?

That's exactly the problem. I can't delete it because it's not empty (Error
0x80070091) and I can't empty it because I can't access it since it's
corrupted. And since it's corrupted, I can't install the software either (or
install it over the corrupted file) to fix it.

oh, and I forgot to mention, I can't run the diskcheck either (neither from
command prompt, nor from the "computer" menu). I won't even check it after a
restart.

What a mess!
