Sounds like a DNS/name resolution issue, and potentially a HOSTS and/or
LMHOSTS if using that file. There may also be an issue with your firewall
and router.
Check your proxy settings in IE, and your network, firewall, and router..

| I have Win98Se and Internet Explorer 6.
| Until a few months ago I always used IE 5.5.
| Because some online order forms and things like that would not
| recognise IE 5.5 I decided to upgrade to ver 6.
| When i first installed IE6, it seemed to work ok.
| I recently ran the windows install on top of the already installed
| copy because of a problem I was having, which I later found out was
| not Windows, but was a defective keyboard, causing some really weird
| problems. Anyhow, a new keyboard took care of things.
|
| However, now that I did this, IE6 is acting weird. I normally use
| Firefox for most websites, but I still use IE for some sites that dont
| render properly with FF. For example, if I load weather.com in FF, I
| get pieces of text on top of pictures, using Firefox. Because of
| that, and the fact that IE loads much faster, I normally use IE to get
| a quick weather report.
|
| Here's the problem. Lately, I open IE and type in a URL, or click on
| a link to weather.com, or google.com, or any other site. I am on a
| dialup connection. I hit the enter key, or click the "GO" button, and
| nothing happens. Looking at my internet connection icon on the
| taskbar, does not indicate any activity. My "homepage" is offline.
| It's just a html file on my own computer, which is a bunch of links to
| my most commonly used websites. So, whether I click on one of those
| links, or type in a URL, IE just sits there on my homepage and does
| not attempt to access the internet. It seems to eventually connect if
| I leave it sit long enough.......
|
| Why is this happening? How can I fix it?
| -OR-
| Can I remove IE6 and go back to IE 5.5? How?
|
| At this point, I'd rather go back to 5.5 if I have to live with this
| annoyance.
|
| Thanks in advance for all help.
