spybot disables spyware blaster

Latest spybot update disables spyware blaster from enabling protection.
Temp fix is to undo protection for fire fox in spybot. Until spybot
corrects the problem, this apparently is the only fix, according to Java
Cool.

I don't seem to have the luxury of undoing the protection for FF.
When trying to update the firefox protection, I get an access violation
error message at 0x0046FAFC (tried to read from 0x0342E930) and the program
terminated. That leaves me without a chance to fix anything and probably
will have to uninstall the program and relplace it with something of equal
value.
Any other ideas?

Harry......what in hell are you drinking?? Richard said to DISABLE the
protection for FF in Spybot......NOT update it!!

Go back into Spybot and DISABLE the protection for Firefox......until a
fix is out. What part of that did you not understand?? It was
perfectly clear. And for that matter, you can run your computer for a
couple of days without SpywareBlaster, ya know.

Damn......but you can screw up the simplest instructions.....no wonder
you have so many problems with WinME!!!

Here is the quote from JavaCool:

"This problem is being caused by Spybot S & D writing invalid entries to
the Firefox hostperm.1 file.

Specifically, Spybot is writing entries using unicode characters, such as:
"meine-Grußkarten.de"

This is invalid. According to the specification, these International
Domain Names should be properly encoded as punycode before being written
to the file. In the case of the domain listed above, it should be
written to the file as:
"meine-grusskarten.de"

Note that Firefox appears to pass some characters through an additional
normalization/conversion process before writing them to the file (or
using them in the browser itself), as is the case with "ß"."

If you have protection checked for FireFox, then you probably will have
the problem. Since you don't use that browser, I assume you have it
unchecked, and thus no difficulty.

Thinking doesn't come into play here, everything happening is automatic,
(remember?) upon opening the program, since firefox protection was enabled.
What I'm experiencing is probably the result of richard's explanation.
I'll probably have to wait it out, which is 'no problemo'.
Good thing richard brought this to our attention.
