How do I use Group Policy Management Console (GPMC)?

So I am a total newbie to Windows Server anything. We are using
server 2003. Now on all of our desktops (totally Windows XP) we use
Group Policy editor, to change some specific about the machine.

ie, where windows updates are found, what the proxy is, etc.

What sucks is we have to do this to each individual machine when we
set it up. I need to change one option in all of the machines, but I
am not really interested in walking to the 200+ machines and changing
this variable individually.

This is where I read about Group Policy Management Console. I am not
really sure how to use it. How to import the setting I want into it,
and then deploy them across the network. Can anyone help me in
understanding how this works?

We are on one domain, and all of the computers would get the same
Group Policy change.

I am wondering questions like:

on Workstation X I have the itranet location for windows update set to
\\Computer1

Now in GPMC I have changed itranet location for windows update to \
\Computer2

Which one wins out? Well the server side GPMC trump what is set on
the local machine?

Hello jferris@einstein.k12.ec,

The biggest point is that you need also a basic knowledge about Active directory
and DNS.

For GPMC you can look here:

Dude

The policy that gets applied last usually wins out, especially if No Override
is selected. Local policies get applied first, then group policies get
applied next.

My suggestion is to create a test OU. Apply the group policiy to the test
OU, then move a computer account into this OU for testing. That way you can
tweak it and get it working right before applying it to everybody.
