Windows Protection Error Again!

I posted this problem a few weeks ago and got it resolved, but it has
resurfaced. A few facts are different this time.

SAME AS THE LAST TIME:
I have Windows 98 Second edition. I made no changes to my computer in the
recent past. All of the sudden, when I boot up I get this message "Windows
Protection Error." It suggests that I open in safe mode. I am able to do
that. What do I have to do to get rid of this problem and start using my
computer in the normal mode?

NEW FACTS
Bootlog.txt shows the following errors this time.
Load Failed: ndis2sup.vxd
initfailure: esdi_506.pdr
initcompletefailed = sdvxd
dynamicload failed: nuwav.dre : File not found
The following .ttf files failed to load, with a failure code of 2.

befrisky.ttf
cgpastes.ttf
gilshd.ttf
grephlt.ttf
graphltn.ttf
lucasit.ttf
lucasr.ttf
miles.ttf
signetro.ttf

I did not see your previous post...but as a precaution I suggest running a
RAM test
just to be sure a hardware error isn't to blame

It was about a month ago, I think....IIRC he restored the Registry to a previous
copy from before the problem occurred.

yep...
I had to go back quite a ways to find that post.

Hope the OP still has a copy of that good registry.

The RAM may or may not find something

The solution was to restore the last registry.

I rebooted the machine to do RAM test and could not even get to restrat in
safe mode. Now I get this message and the computer shuts down.

"error loading gdi.exe"

That link I gave you was one for creating a bootable floppy...
you do not boot to windows to run the test.
Your bios should be set to boot first from floppy.

The test will run for as long as you allow it to...
but let it make at least one pass for every individual test...
or until errors are found

If there are any errors...the RAM should be replaced

It may be, as philo suggested, that the RAM is at fault. Bad RAM will cause
Registry errors, resulting in repeatedly having to restore a previous known-good
Registry.

The RAM test did not find any errors. I let it run for about 45 minutes,
about 5 passes.

I will now work on the gdi.exec problem. I had moved the font directory
thinking that I needed to do that to fix my original problem.
