White Desktop

R

Richard

After finally following all the advise to get rid of the Vundo trojan and a
few others, which I now have done, my boot up continues normally, complete
with blue background desktop and proper desktop icons and folders then
suddenly the background turns to white, almost as if it would in safe mode.
All the icons and links work as per normal but the white background appears
during the
last part of the boot up. The names of the icons however are blocked off in
the original desktop colour of blue. All other functions of the computer
work per normal, now. All suggestions appreciated and thanks in advance.

Right click on your desktop and select 'Properties'. Select the
'desktop' tab and then the 'Customize desktop' button. Click on the
'Web' tab and remove the checkmark from the the 'Lock Desktop Items'
box. 'Delete' any web pages listed here. Click Apply/OK. Exit Display
properties.

When I right click on my desktop and select 'Properties', I get a window
that just has a 'General' tab in it that contains Protocol, Type,
Connection, Address, Certificate etc. No 'Customize desktop' button. What I
am not doing right?

Sorry, I guess you were referring to doing that in SAFE mode, which I just
did. There was no check mark in the Lock Desktop block and I deleted the
four or five websites that were there. Still, on reboot I get the white
background (vice blue) and blue names under the icons. Additional help
solicited.

Try this edit.
Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Other than that, check your default settings.
