Gateway PC fires up and then doesn't fire up

I got this PC to finally get going when I plugged everything back in. I
didn't even use the power button, I just plugged the power cord back into the
back panel and whammo! It started, but nothing came up on the monitor screen
and the power supply fan didn't turn, and yes I did plug the little 3 pin
connector back up to the mobo. I bet if I change the tower case everything
will be ok.
Ok, yes it is me. And if you don't want to answer anymore questions, then
let it be. There are enough professional people here that can answer
questions and not make a big deal about it.
Another thing is I tried to post another thread and I don't see it.
I just bought a video card from Dell. It's a GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB DDR3
PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Card. I bought it when I was upset and now I think I need
a new motherboard to use it. My Dell 8300 has the stock motherboard, and
wait, I can check with belarc.com and see what mobo i have on my Dell 8300
desktop.
Thanks, attilathehun1

Okay, just give us the facts, and someone will likely try to help.

Try a new case. Potentially, that replaced switch is not working properly,
AND did you make sure you have the power connectors FROM the power supply
connected properly to the motherboard? And HOW did the computer supposedly
start if the fan didn't [what makes you thing it started when nothing
indicates that it did, no monitor/video or fan]?
HOWEVER, depending upon what board and case, it MAY be proprietary, as I
believe someone suggested in one of the other discussions.

The PCI-e WILL require a new motherboard and will likely only work with XP
or above [possibly 2000]. You MAY find modified drivers for 98 [video and
motherboard] but I seriously doubt it. Someone MIGHT be able to direct you
to one WITH 98 drivers, but I can't. Don't bother attempting to use an old
case, since you will have a new motherboard and video card, buy a new case
to go with it. Pick one with extra power, better to have excess rather than
floating at or below what the system might presently need [you may add other
things later].

There ARE no facts. This is Dan, and the story he spins is pure fantasy. But
if you want to play his game, be warned that there is no end to it. Dan
doesn't like his stories to end.
