Can't install mouse driver from Microsoft

B

Bob S

I can't install the driver for a Microsoft mouse.

Although it's tedious, I'm setting out the exact steps I
followed, since this has me baffled.

I'm running WinXP SP2 and have a Wireless Intellimouse
Explorer 2.0. I can't find the installation CD that came
with it, and I want to have the most recent driver anyway,
so I went to the Microsoft site to get it (here:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/Download.mspx)

I selected the type of product ("mouse"), the product
("Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0."), the operating
system ("Windows XP (32-bit only)"), and language
("English"). That took me here:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/m...ersion=IntelliPoint 6.2 32-bit for Windows XP

On that page there's only one choice for the download:
"Intellipoint 6.2 32-bit for Windows XP."

I then click on the link. The file that downloads is called
"IP32Eng6.20.182.0.exe".

When I double click on the file, I get this message:

"< path >\IP32Eng6.20.182.0.exe is not a valid Win32
application." And that's it. It doesn't install.

Any idea how to solve this problem?

Thanks.

maybe it is because
of the periods inside
the version numbers
of the filename, that
is posing the problem.

perhaps there should
only be one period
that separates the
filename from the
extension.

is this the file you
downloaded? it
only has one period:

That is supposed to be a 14.1 MB file, but what downloads
is a 208 KB file. You would have to straighten this out with
Microsoft - it seems that they provided a bad download.

Did you Save the file to your desktop first?

Apparently so. The link that db gave me a download that
worked, but after I'm done responding to all of the reply
messages, I'll head over to that page and let them know
they've got a problem.

Thanks.

I did, not to the desktop, but to a file I use to archive
things that I download, in case I ever need them again.

I any case, as mentioned in other messages, I've been
directed to a page where I was able to obtain the correct
download. The first one I used apparently doesn't result in
the correct file being downloaded.

Thanks.

Er. I guess I won't. When I click on the "contact us" link
on that page nothing happens. Oh well, I tried.

Thanks again for your response.

Fishy fixed it for him. When I followed his steps, it arrived
at 208 KB for me. I couldn't resist the unanswered post.
I'll go back to mining the MIT anime club listings for pre-panties
craze series I might like to view by means of google video now.

you're welcome.

sometimes the initial
results of a search
is not always fruitful
because of heuristics.

i simply utilized a
more generic criterion
which produced a
multitude of results.

in this case i think
it was either result
number 4 or 5 which
provided a different
set of results than the
one you obtained:
