restarts after shutting down

Hi
Problem has just started.
When I switch off down the computer from the shut down options, the screen
closes, but the hard drive continues to run, the system then reboots normally
back onto the desktop.
It will shut down if I hold the switch in.
It does not seem to be related to any change in software.
I have checked the usual places for answers but none seem to fit this
"simple" problem
Any ideas?

Run msconfig.exe, general tab, advanced button. Mark the "Disable fast
shutdown" box because it can cause shutdown to work too fast and a reboot is
the result. If the entry does not exist or if it is already marked, MVP Jim
Eshelman has general troubleshooting procedures for W95/98/98SE shutdown
problems at http://www.aumha.org/a/shutdown.htm and procedures for W98SE in
particular at http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnse.htm
