Where can one get download of msimg32.dll for me?

Opera 9.5 for Win 98 gives a startup message saying you need a me
version of msimg32.dll. See

I have looked in the top listed google dll download sites and
they have version 5.1.2600.1106 which says xpsp1.
Mine is 5.00.1693.1. I find some references on the net to
5.00.2218, which may be the me one.

Does anyone know where to find this me version of msimg32.dll?

It appears that a reasonable answer was already presented for why this
occurs:

QUOTE
There were problems in 9.5 on Win9x systems, caused by problems in the old
dll. Not just in the final build, it has been more work then in earlier
versions to make sure Opera 9.5 works properly on Win9x systems. If you
don't use areas in Opera were transparency is used, you might not notice.

And since it's 10 years now since those OS's were new, the developers
opted for the quick solution of not modifying their code to work around
these issues, but issue a warning. But of course it is annoying to get
that popup every time, so the next release will probably have a 'do not
show again' checkbox.

Rijk van Geijtenbeek
Opera Software ASA, Documentation & QA
END QUOTE

Just a question since I have the old version 9.27 for testing: what is so
important or new in this 9.5 release anyway..

What is it, more people demanding XP/VISTA eye candy [transparency] in
their applications instead of functionality...

IF you really think you need this junk, then download the correct version.
Opera apparently still functions WITHOUT upgrading that DLL, though I see
why it was brought to the attention of the developer... as was noted by
Rijk, these OSs are over 10 years old, so it would appear that any competent
programmer would not need to spend much time understanding work arounds
necessary for compatibility..

ME? I'll wait for the update/fixed version..

It's *fast*. I did some tests with different websites, and in all cases
O9.27 used twice the processortime to render the site.

That is v. 5.0.2180.1. Not sure I'd be putting that one in there. It's
definitely from Win2K.

Okay, that makes some sense then. I had noticed that the 09.27 version was
slower at loading and some sites than some of the older versions.
Hopefully the programmers can straighten out the code in the fix release.

I found a similar issue discussed here [regarding Miranda]:
http://forums.miranda-im.org/archive/index.php?t-13660.html

It would seem that there is a failure to understand proper registry and DLL
call entries by the newer/younger programmers.
Then again, many of the newer compilers are NOT compiling properly for cross
platform applications as support has been drop in THEIR coding.

HMMM,,,,
This isn't one of those issues which previously required developers to
include GDIPLUS.DLL in their application coding and install folder, and
direct the coding through this library first??? Seems I remember something
about this, but that's soooo long ago.. any coders monitoring here?

I don't know where you're talking about. Opera warns at startup that the
detected msimg32 version is to old for optimal rendering, especially when
transparency is involved. That's all. No bugs/crashes whatever. You can
happily ignore the message. I didn't notice any difference when I added the
ME dll. (Except I didn't get a warning anymore).

Like I said, something popped up in my mind concerning the gdiplus.dll but
it was one of those "aaaahhh, huh" moments...

If you searched for other like errors with MSIMG32.DLL you would have found
numerous instances of that very issue cropping up for years, but
particularly since last year when using certain programming applications and
compilers [hence my other comment related to that].

BTW: where DID you download the ME version, or did you have it locally? I
found lots of XPSP1-2 versions and noted that they had created issues in
certain cases/configurations when attempted at use..

I'm going back to 9.26.

After upgrading to 9.5, and while downloading a 20MB file with the
Transfer window open, Resource Meter showed that the System and GDI
resources were rapidly disappearing. Closing the transfer window,
without interrupting the download, stopped the rot, but by that time
my resources were in the red. Only after exiting Opera was I able to
reclaim most (all?) of the lost resources.

My bad. I downloaded it and thought I had double checked the version
too. I quess the similar set of numbers keyed the transposing gene
and I fell for my own defect without a clue I had done anything wrong.
