Converting W2K TS Licenses to W2K3

Tom Goodman

I'm replacing a W2K Terminal server that supports many RDP connections --
with a W2K3 Terminal server. 1st of all - how do I determine the number of TS
licenses that are currently allowed on the W2K server? Then can I "upgrade"
these licenses to W2K3 CALs -- or just purchase new?

Start the TS Licensing Manager on your current W2K Licensing Server
and check the number of TS CALs which have been "Issued".

You can upgrade your W2K TS CALs if you have valid upgrade coverage
(Upgrade Advantage or Software Assurance) for them.

Note that *every* client connecting to a 2003 TS must have a
purchased TS CAL. XP Pro clients will not receive a free one, as
they did when connecting to the W2K TS.

Before you buy any licenses, make sure that you decide on which
type is best for you, Per User or Per Device.
