Avast and AVG for Windows

D

Dan

I removed AVG and went with Avast antivirus and it is working well. The last
I heard that AVG 7.5 will be ending in a few days and version 8 is not
compatible with Windows 98 Second Edition. I tried version 8 on my computer
on the Windows XP Pro. side of my multi-boot computer and it was terrible
because it flagged things that were not a problem and just related to
SpywareBlaster which had protected against the baddies and AVG 8 removed the
protection for 197 items. My dad tried it on his computer and it flagged a
legitimate file as a trojan. He is also now using Avast.

I am also giving Ubantu Linux a try on my computer a try within the XP Pro.
side of the Windows environment and so I now have a tri-boot computer.

This is a known-behavior and (to Grisoft's way of thinking) an
incomptibility with AVG v8.0 cf. http://free.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-1319.
There are several workarounds to avoid this.

Thank you for your response, Robear. AVG 7.5 worked fine for me and since
AVG 8 is flawed, imo and will not work with Windows 98 Second Edition then I
am glad to have an alternative with Avast for Windows 98 SE and Windows XP
Pro.
