Not just because of the malware-threat, but i have no idea if
that links to a resource i have visited already or maybe to a
resource i know i have no interest in.
IMO. Just enclose your long links in < and > instead.

given half a chance to know if the destination is something i

that links to a resource i have visited already or maybe to a
resource i know i have no interest in.

particular tiny URL, then the tinyURL web site gives you two options,
a direct link and a preview link. AFAICT, you would just need to post
the preview URL instead of the direct one. Or did I misunderstand you?

TinyURL has a shortcut that you ca put into the Links folder in IE and when
you click the link, it takes you to TinyURL page AND copies the TinyURL to
the Clipboard for easy pasting. But that's the TinyURL, not the Preview
link. To get that, I'd have to wait for the TinyURL page to laod and then
copy the Preview URL from the page before I could paste it. WHen I hit that
shortcut in the Links bar, by the time I get back to teh OE message I'm
working on, the TinyURL is already on teh clipboard and a quick Ctrl-V
finishes the job. Getting teh Preview TinyURL into a message would take
three times longer or more.

I tried to see if that was possible with one of them short-URL
places a couple of years ago but didn't see a way then. Good to

The MS news server's bot filtered it on my first attempt, so I had to
use my own ISP's news server to repost it. Other people who are
getting their news feed exclusively from MS wouldn't have seen it.

Why would a message posted on a different news server manage to get by the
MS bots when a direct connection gets it filtered out? Puzzles me.
I've have had many totally acceptable messages dumped over the last month or
two. Mostly, I just totally rewrite the message and try it again.

My newsreader, Agent, allows me to use several news servers in my
"access plan". My own messages are posted using the first available
server in the plan. If news.microsoft.com is first, then its bot

news.internode.on.net is first, then it accepts all of my messages and

If one look at the threads layout at google-groups:

it looks the same as what i see via AIOE, but i just downloaded
the group-headers from <news:msnews.microsoft.com> and your post
is indeed missing there. Too bad for the ones using that server
that i snipped your excellent on topic advice to the OP,
'CdLsRN', or rather i was lucky doing it or my post wouldn't have
gotten through to them either i suppose. So unless it was just a
glitch at there servers, if i'll try to repost/quote your advice
here without knowing the offending word it would just be filtered
there again. :-(

Okay, that's why I posted that information to confirm... it just SEEMED to
be the same as the times were identical.
So what are you doing - multi-posting via several services at the same
time? That would produce multiples which WOULD be filtered depending upon
which came through first. That also might trigger Spam filters.
The only way I can get multiple posts to appear is: such as recently in
"Re: Microsoft Phasing Out Win98 !?" in which the MS server never returned
the "received/posted" due to access failure, and upon re-connect, the
message was resent.
My reader shows two response from me containing the exact same message.

No, I use only one server for posting each message. Messages to MS NGs
default to the MS news server, messages to other NGs go via my ISP's
news server. Only when I have difficulty posting a particular message
to an MS group do I temporarily switch to using my ISP's news server.

messages. This allows me to minimise the effects of a broken news
feed, ie one server may have parts of a thread that the other doesn't.

Okay, just clarifying. Like I said, my query was based upon the compared
times indicated rather than the actual post indicator.
But yeah, depending upon where you receive your news, it may have lots of
materials not on MS..
