lose connection with usb hard drive

musicfreak91967

i have an external hard drive (usb) it works fine sometimes then all of a
sudden i lose conection with it. i have to uninstall usb universal host
controllers a number of times before it works. what is going on? and what can
i do to fix?

Hello,

1) Try connecting to another port
2) Hook up the external power supply if your hard disk allows for one to be
connected to it
3) Try it on another PC to rule out the hard disk being malfunctioning

i have done all of this and it still doesn't help i've even tried different
hard drives they all do the same thing work for awhile then quit. or not work
at all.

You can try getting a powered hub and see if that helps. No guarantees
though.

USB Root Hub>>Power Management [ ] Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power.
Untick them all.

Sometimes you have to install the drivers when plugging in to another
USP port. Same thing oftens with mice.
