Ithought I'd let you and the group know what ended up happening re getting a
(2007 model) new CX5500 Epson printer/copier/scanner to get the printer to
work on an win98se operating sys.
Initially, I thought I had done the install properly,..and it's not
difficult, the Epson CD is for install-dummies,...still the printer didnt
work, the PC just chucked up an error message saying "cant see device" on
USBPRNT1 (or close to that).
Franc's USB program indicated the PC was aware an Epson had been installed,
connected to USB 1. I tried different cables, checked all the files on C:,
and there were about 10 of them. There were Epson Icons on the desk-top for
its 3 functions, but nogo.
In sheer frustration I decided to uninstall and try a new install. Warning
here, the program "add/remove" icon in "settings" gives the impression
everything is gone,..not true. Did a file search for "Epson", and there were
about 8 things left. Manually deleted these, and tried a new install. It
worked!
The only thing I can remember that I might have stuffed up, is after the
install said "connect USB cable then turn printer turned on", I think I
turned the printer off again after that step and I also had the cable in USB
2 (on the left handside of USB 1) Anyway thanx for the help people! Without
this group I would have swimming around in the muck still
