can't view localhost

hi guys, I have a problem, I have a laptop on which windows 2000 pro
is running, and I'm trying to use tomcat( it's a web server) but I
can't view localhost. Why is that? Could you explain what I should do.

Not sure what you mean by "view," but if you go to a command prompt and type

ping localhost <enter>

What do you get?

Check your hosts file....it should have this entry:

127.0.0.1 localhost
