I said to Peter Foldes .........

"perhaps you can help me understand why there are hundreds of posts here
entitled 'ClusterSentinelNNTPPostTest' with the 'poster' being user@domain"

PF usually knows the answer to most things, but this obviously has him
stumped (or he's been busy elsewhere).

Can anyone here explain matters? If so, I'd appreciate your view. TIA.

Advice: Don't over-analyze. -)

Someone decided to post (perhaps testing something - thus their choice of
newsgroups: microsoft.public.test) hundreds of times something entitled
'ClusterSentinelNNTPPostTest' (the very subject again implying this is a
test - further confirming the reasoning behind it all) and they have chosen
to hide their identity by using the address user@domain for whatever reason.

As far as why someone would do that - those reasons would be known only to
the person actually doing the posting (and perhaps not even to them -
depending on their mental state and/or possibility of being told to do
that.)

Could be a spammer testing their new tool. Could be a regular user testing
something for themselves. Could be a bot. Could be some insane individual
who thinks this will bring them closer to enlightment (or perhaps they are
not insane and it will do just that and we are all blind to their wisdom...)

However, 'tis me who is seeking enlightment!

I suspect that you didn't actually take the trouble to look or, if you did,
you do not see the posts in question. Each post as described is one minute
apart - every minute of every hour - hundreds ............. all similar, but
the ones I've looked at have differing numerals/letters. Here is an example:

NNTP microsoft.public.test - Post61bfb794-390a-4bd8-b8aa-16012d3071bc

Although I appreciate your specific view, there must be a more logical
reason than any of those you have described Shenan. Perhaps someone else
will actually take a peek ............ and report back, here, what they
think.

the 'test' forum at Aumha and had my hand smacked really hard.

I did go look before I responded.

I stick with my answer.
Something is testing something.

What specifically (given the subject name - I have suspicions as to the
product) I cannot say for sure.

Why is something only the person/bot/server configured to do this testing
could answer.


"ClusterSentinel is a tool used to monitor and control the Network Load
Balancing cluster hosts. Microsoft.com administrators use ClusterSentinel
to:

• Determine and report the state of the Network Load Balancing cluster
hosts, such as converged or suspended.
• Manually control cluster hosts by using Network Load Balancing commands,
such as Stop, Start, Drain and Drainstop.
• Monitor and report on application health. If an application is determined
to be having problems on a particular host, that host will automatically be
removed from the cluster."


As for the body of each message - that unique identifier could mean anything
and be generated in any way.

The "Xref: TK2MSFTNGP01.phx.gbl microsoft.public.test:" is counting up and
infers that 320627 postings have been made since whatever/whom ever began
this 'test'. Right now i only see 319416 - 320627, but that will increase.
