15401 - NT user or group not found

Hi,

I have just set up a domain controller and a separate database server, both
running copies of 2K8 joined to the same domain. Whenever I attempt to add a
domain user / group to the database server as a new login, I get the 15401
error stating that the NT user or group cannot be found. However, I can
browse on the "Search..." link for the Domain account, I can ping my domain
controller correctly, I have gone through all of these steps,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324321/en-us, there are no existing users by
the same name. I am suspicious that it may not have anything to do with SQL
itself, but I am neither a DB Admin or a Infrastructure Admin, so I am at a
loss. Any ideas??

Thanks.

I will assume you encounter this in SQL Server 2005.
Is the account that the SQL service runs under a domain account?
How has this server been hardened (relative to allowed network traffic)?
If you run netdiag (from the support tools) on the server where SQL Server
is installed does it indicate all is fine?
