How to remove Norton Locked files ?

R

RJK

I've got a hard-disk from a SP Home PC attached as slave [drive E:\ by the
way], and I've Ghosted it into a directory on C:\ghost_e

I also would like to manually copy the whole drive, say, into C:\e_copy
but, the machine that it came from had Norton installed in it and when I try
to drag everything from E:\ and drop it in C:\e_copy ...it can't get past
some file that are locked on E:\
e.g. XP tells me :-
"Cannot copy or replace SrtETmp: Access Denied"

How to delete the Norton locked files on slve drive E:\ please ? :)

regards, Richard

Thanks both,

I'll file that away for future use.

re: the hd I had attached, it had an "exploit" in it as well, as locked
Norton files. It was an old ExcelStor 40gb drive, and when powering off -
towards the end of it spinning down, I could hear some horrible noises that
sounded very much to me like a dry / knackered bearing ! I suspect it had
suffered a very hard life, especially considering that its' XP Home platform
had only had 256mb 168pin SDRAM available to it ! Replaced it with a 80gb
Seagate - then a couple of hours later, the old Matsonic Skt 462 board
and/or xp2000 cpu decided to die on me !

Had to replace the whole PC :-(

regards, Richard

Bad news indeed, Richard.

Regardless ......... how are you getting on with your new machine?

Is it Vista this time?
