Antivirus XP 2008

Has anyone heard of this program ? Is it real or is it a virus. It
installed itself on my computer and I cannot uninstall it.

Google it.
It's bad.
If you have it - something on your system is saying you need it - you are
already infested/infected.

I just had to cleanse 3 computers of Antivirus XP 2008 yesterday.

I used the free version of MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, available here:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

In each case the malware WAS removed!

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.

Anyone who posts such nonsense in a Windows newsgroup that has nothing
to do with Macs is a troll.

Anyone who thinks the OS their running is impervious is naive or a fool.

Hang in there, 'fun' is coming to 'MacWorld' unless Apple has fixed/is
fixing their updating mechanism:

Since Apple's first update for the DNS issue was, to put it kindly, a
dismal failure, they had to release another one.
Let's see how they do with their updating mechanism.
