Well Jim, I chose to delete the account and to preserve its data. The
data of the late account is then preserved in a special map. I later
on deleted the map too. So the account and its data were deleted but
the ownership of the account survived the account. Not exactly what I
would have expected...

The account removal process only knows to remove files and folders which are
located somewhere in the Documents & Settings tree. Files and folders
located elsewhere will remain.
