?? Whats the deal with Spybot Instal 160

J

jeanette

hi,, has been a while....

recently i got msg from spybot to instal version 160, but after the prelimarys while installing, i
noticed lots of 'wing-dings and chinese or korean stuff',,,, i cancelled immediately.
i d/loaded it from a different site, and while installing, noticed the same at the same congfig
dialogue box......? (also noticed something about the author saying it is dedicated to the 'best
girl in the world' or similar,, of which i had to tick 'i agree'.

am i misssing something? is there a scam going down? i am not in the habit of allowing
stuff i dont understand to be on my puter. i even got to the point of installing 25% of it,,
(of which i cancelled and will be rebooting after sending this).

also, SpyBot is saying it needs web access to d/l 'other' files to my computer during
installationn...... i've never ever heard of that scenario before.

help appreciated.

The issue with SpyBot needing to DL files during install is normal. It can
be frustrating if you're on dial-up. Also, I think it allows uyou to choose
what language you want the installer to be in. That may get rid of the
strange characters. I noticed that myself when I instaled on this machine.
So far, no problems.

You don't need to be in fear of the 'Spybot - S&D', it is a solid program in
it's devision and I for one like it a lot. Just make sure to follow
instructions and 'immunize', either before downloading updates and at least
twice afterwards,
until you have zero 'Unprotected' items.
If I remember correctly, uninstall of the older version is also automatic,
in order to maintain your previous settings.
Hope this helps,

Harry.

Sorry you had sooo much trouble with 'Spybot', jeanette, but glad you
finally got it.
Dial-up is slow, I know, but it's better than nothing.
If you can't see something, check 'all' your settings in OE, especially
'View', as
Mewtwo already suggested. You'll get there, I'm sure.

Harry.

If Spybot SD is working now, don't allow auto updates. Take in only what you
need. If you can do without Tea Timer you might be better off.

Didn't know there was auto updating in this program, and
I am sure she can do without it and she 'will be better off'. <H>.
