Outlook Express problems

B

Bren

Using Windows XP, SP3 recently installed but I don't think this is the
cause.

1. I cannot get OE to block Spam. I've tried setting it to delete it from
the server, put it in my Deleted Items folder, delete it etc. but it still
turns up in my Inbox?? I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions
correctly.

2. I discovered that there is is a newer version of OE (OE7). I was
previously using OE6. I downloaded and installed OE7 and restarted the
computer when prompted. However, when I open Outlook Express and go to
Help - About Microsoft Outlook Express, I'm told that I am still using
Outlook Express 6 !!

What is going on?????

There is no such thing as OE7. You probably downloaded IE7. OE is not
supported anymore. Check out Thunderbird at www.mozilla.com/thunderbird.
Not only does it have an excellent built-in junk filter, it corrects
your spelling as you type and is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier to back up than
OE will ever be. Not only that, you can install an add on called
"Lightning" that will give you a calendar with it. Oh, and it's free and
when you first open it after installing it, it will offer to import
everything from Outlook Express.

1) OE doesn't have a spam blocker. How are you using it to block spam?
2) There is no OE7. Where did you download and install it from? There is
only OE 6.

2. Installing IE7 does NOT install OE7 in fact, there is no OE7 and never

Yes, you're right! do I feel silly or what? :)

Thunderbird looks like a good solution. Can I also use it to read news? If
I get it up and running will I be able to uninstall Outlook Express?

What kind of rule? Subject, From, etc.? How did you create it? If it is
indeed created correctly, you may need to move it.

In general:

Have all rules that divert mail to folders first.

Delete it from server next.

All others last.

Make sure that every rule also has Stop processing more rules checked,
unless that option is grayed out.

That can't be uninstalled. Just ignore it.

I set it up just as it is descibed here
http://www.timeatlas.com/mos/Email/Outlook_Express/Creating_Rules_in_Outlook_Express/
but tried to have the Spam moved to my Deleted folder. Also I did not have
Stop processing more rules checked as there is nothing in the set up process
to indicate I should use it.

I am not familiar with that link. So is it working now? Is this a rule when
the Subject line contains the word Spam? Delete it and Stop processing more
rules will send it to the Deleted Items folder.

Use Thunderbird instead of Outhouse Distress. Trust me, you'll be happy
you did.

I heard about not bad application-Outlook Express problems, recover info after viruses, software failures, power failures, human errors, hard drive failures, Outlook Express problem and Outlook Express troubles are only a few examples of what could destroy the data of your e-mails, including the email address book and contacts, help you avoid Outlook Express troubles and fix the problems with Outlook Express folders that you cannot open.
