Administrator.<machine name> ?!?!?!?!?!

P

pb

All,

I'm running windows 2000 Pro as a machine in a workgroup.

I somehow screwed up the NTUSER.DAT file for the Administrator account.
When I tried to login as administrator it created a new administrator account
called administrator.prometheus, where prometheus is the name of the
computer. Had to reinstall some stuff, but everything seemed ok.

That's when it got weird. Seems the administrator.prometheus and the
administrator accounts have some weird connection where files created in in
one show up in the other, run Visual Development Environments and they get
confused picking bits of projects from either account, etc.

I tried deleting the administrator account and like herpes it was back the
next time I logged in, still exhibiting this weird symbiotic relationship.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? How can I settle back down to just the administrator
account? P.S. I normally use another account with admin privs to do all my
work, but I frequently have to test my software logged in as administrator.

Thanks in advance.

PB,

Norton Antivirus scans the User.dat file on shutdown sometimes locking it & when
you go to login next time it does what you described
