Windows Explorer Problems

I am getting a lot of windows explorer problems with window hangs galore,
particulalry with the Welcome Screen that tries to update and becomes
nonresponsive requiring a close via task manager. Each time explorer
restarts itself without problems but it is annoying nonetheless. I haven't
installed any new software recently and I tried a system restore just in
case, but this didn't help. I did recently update the BIOS but the problem
was occurring before then. Can I ask if this frequency of explorer errors is
characteristic of Vista (eg. 2-3 times per day for heavy users) or whether
it is more likely I have a software/hardware conflict? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

This seems like a known issue with Nvidia 8 series drivers ( I had the
same problem ).

Go to Nvidia.com and get the latest drivers - 175.19 are the latest
for vista x64 ( anyway the site will tell you). Download the drivers ,
right click and run as administrator- they will automatically install.

Microsoft does not have these drivers in their online database yet even
though they were released at the end of June - so asking Vista to update
the drivers for you is no use.

Please let us know how you get on.

I tried that no help. Thanks for the prod to go get the latest nVidia
drivers, however. Mine were out of date.

You're welcome, and no it shouldn't be crashing several times a day. Not
sure what you mean by the Welcome Screen - do you mean the Welcome
Centre?

Try unchecking the box at the bottom left of the Welcome Centre so it
doesn't come in at start up and see if that helps. It may be your
antivirus is trying to update at the same time causing a conflict. What
security programs are you using?
