CPU Upgrade?

What is the better option:
1. to upgrade the current processor or
2. to install a co-processor (motherboard capable)?
The model installed is an AMD Duron M3 (Spitfire).
It has nothing to do with WinME, but to keep this NG alive.

Harry, that can't be answered with the information given. The processor is
not your only limiting factor. You can upgrade to the fastest processor
available and not be any better off than you are now, depending on the other
items that could limit processing, i.e. bus speed, memory/speed, HD speed
and configuration, mobo limitations and on and on.
For what you would be spending on a processor upgrade (which may or may not
help significantly), you should consider one of the inexpensive systems
available today...just make sure it is configurable to your liking in the
future. JMO, I could be wrong........

According to your response I may be best off to leave things the way they
are.
You didn't address the co-processor option directly, but I assume it fits
within the framework of your assessment.
The reason I came up with this proposal was 'SiSoft Sandra', which suggested
that an upgrade would be in order.
This machine works too good to be replaced by another, at least for now.

Hey Harry,
Putting a math co-processor in, once again, would probably not make
a significant difference in your everyday use of the machine. Yeah, it
would help with the 'number crunching' and maybe provide a mild speed boost
to some graphics intensive apps, but, most likely not enough that you would
notice. I could be wrong (of course), but, I think you would be looking at
milliseconds for a payoff.......you would need Sandra to see the difference.

If it is working good and fulfills your needs, leave it alone.
SiSoft Sandra is a great program, however, I have seen some of the
'suggested improvements' on mine that were semi-unrealistic, at best.
