Hi.

Im not sure where this goes, but its general..sooo.

anyways i am buying well renting through rentsmart.com a laptop.

Basically I need something that can run programs that I have once used on
windows XP.

I have just been over at the apple website and had SO many questions about
mac etc.

But a mac doesnt seem to be the kind of computer I need.

really all I need to know is.. if I bought a *just say* dell laptop.
(i know this probably isnt in the right forum)
but does anyone know if they come with things already installed????

if not, would i need to BUY vista...or is it free.. orrr????
and what exactly is it?
like i have read a lot of stuff about it.
but does it have any special programs.

for eg. macs have iLife which have video editing programs etc.

does vista????

anyways...please help!

Not Me

When you buy a new computer, most offer some type of software package
included.
For the better packages, the price is higher. But usually it is cheaper than
buying it off the shelf at a store.
ASK whoever you are buying it from what is included and how much to get the
software you want.

MS-Adict

Hi,
A DELL computer normally comes with an OS installed and most probably also
with a number of pre-installed applications.

I am livng in Europe and my Dell came with MS-Windows Vista Home Premium
installed (it was included in the price, I did not have to pay for it
afterwards).
Next to that MS-Works was also installed the same way as Vista above (I did
not have to pay extra for it afterwards).
It also comes with trial versions of some other programs/applications like
AntiVirus, Photo-editing, etc :
These are programs that you will have to pay for if you want to use them
beyeond the trial date.

I have one question if you don't mind :
- It looks like your are very unfamiliar with computers and all kinds of
this stuff.
- How did you manage to get to this support-group after all ?

If you are not familiar with the above, I suggest that you "Google" a bit in
order to know what it means.

DELL also offers laptops with xp and Ubuntu Linux. Since you seem to be
primarily interested in running software you have used on xp, why not buy
an xp laptop???

mikeyhsd

you can visit the DELL web site and look up the spec on a particular computer and then checks the extras it comes with to see what is there.
do not use dell , never buy dell so have no clue.

You need to call Dell's 800# to get the correct answers to your questions.
