Cannot Uninstall Windows Defender

I go into add/remove programs and try to unistall windows defender and it say
it cannot find windowsdefender.msi and asks me for an install disc. I
searched my machine and the file does not exist. This is a real problem
because I am trying to install Norton 360 and it says I must uninstall
windows defender first. I only briefly used the beta version and somehow
after beta expired some files were deleted or corrupted. I also tried to
install new version of windows defender but I get the same error message
about file not found and I need to use install disc.

Windows version?

Norton 360 /requires/ that Defender be uninstalled or that another
anti-virus or security suite be uninstalled? [Defender is included in Vista
by default and cannot be uninstalled, and Norton 360 /supposedly/ is
supported in Vista.]

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. This is not one of them.

Sorry if I posted to the wrong newsgroup.
I am running XP SP2 with IE7.
It seems like windows defender is not totally installed and so I can not
clean it up.

It is listed in add/remove programs but when I try and remove, it says it
can not find windowsdefender.msi and wants a disc. Since I also tried to
reinstall it with same results it seems I need to clean it out manually and
that is what I am asking for some guidence with.

I will go to the other newsgroup for windows defender and look for help
there also.

I will also monitor this for any replies.

Thanks
