Guest bsddaemon0 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 After using Vista Ultimate on my AMD x64 for a month and a half, Windows Update bombs with error code 80070005. Is there a solution to this? I see others have posted similiar errors, but i don't see a definative answer. 2007-07-11 14:09:51:225 456 c14 AU Triggering AU detection through DetectNow API 2007-07-11 14:09:51:225 456 c14 AU Triggering Online detection (interactive) 2007-07-11 14:09:51:225 456 9a4 AU ############# 2007-07-11 14:09:51:225 456 9a4 AU ## START ## AU: Search for updates 2007-07-11 14:09:51:225 456 9a4 AU ######### 2007-07-11 14:09:51:228 456 9a4 AU <<## SUBMITTED ## AU: Search for updates [CallId = {EC0C9878-29BC-4CC7-9B6C-ECBD18898B54}] 2007-07-11 14:09:51:228 456 434 Agent ************* 2007-07-11 14:09:51:228 456 434 Agent ** START ** Agent: Finding updates [CallerId = AutomaticUpdates] 2007-07-11 14:09:51:228 456 434 Agent ********* 2007-07-11 14:09:51:228 456 434 Setup Checking for agent SelfUpdate 2007-07-11 14:09:51:230 456 434 Setup Client version: Core: 6.0.6000.16386 Aux: 6.0.6000.16386 2007-07-11 14:09:51:707 456 434 Setup Determining whether a new setup handler needs to be downloaded 2007-07-11 14:09:51:707 456 434 Setup SelfUpdate handler is not found. Was another antivirus program installed when the system was first updated, that AV was subsequently uninstalled, and now there's another AV installed ? The system is attempting to update to the latest version of the Windows Update Agent. See if you can manually download the latest WUA and get that to install : Windows Update Agent 3.0 [x86 - 32 bit] http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe Windows Update Agent 3.0 [x64 or 64 bit] http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe When the download completes close the browser and any other open programs. *Right* click WindowsUpdateAgent30-xXX.exe [the XX is for x86 or x64] and choose 'Run as administrator'. Did that get it installed ? Guest bsddaemon0 Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I installed AVG antivirus immediately after I installed Vista and update was working fine until it stopped working a couple weeks ago. I did disable antivirus, but update still wouldn't work. I ended up reloading Vista. It only took about an hour. If MS ever posts an answer on what exact this error means I'd like to see it.

Thanks for the information. Did you install the latest WUA for x64 yet ? Windows Update Agent 3.0 [x64 or 64 bit] http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe Perhaps that will help mitigate future issues ?
