I have automatic updates set to download and allow me to install. stopped working 4 or 5 months ago

something changed with my automatic update process. I have win XP pro, fully up to date. I used to see the icon, right click select custom, see what updates there were and install them when I was ready. no longer works that way. now, like yesterday

for is, I see the icon, it says xx% downloaded, then the icon disappears and it's like I never got the update. When I go to turn off windows it then installs updates received. very inconvienent. Any Advice. I've checked my settings, still the same &quotdownload

and alert me...&quot thanks.
