How do I ensure that all of my windows music library is in the wma format?

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 7 but my music library from Window Media Library didn't get transferred as wma files. They still play on my Window Media Player but I am trying to copy them to a new digital music player and it indicates that

I don't have the rights. But all of my new cd purchases are getting downloaded to WMPlayer in the correct format.

I tried to delete one of my albums and then downloaded it and it works perfectly. But surely I won't have to do that to my 8,000 songs?Sorry for sounding desperate but I'm trying to surprise my wife with a new player with her fav songs on it and I'm stuck!!!Thanks so much for any assistance!- Dan
