I can't update windows 7 because service is not running

I want to update windows 7 enterprise 64 bit, when I wanna open windows update from start menu i click on it and then it says: &quotwindows update cannot curretly check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer&quot

I had restarted it, disabled antivirus ( avast internet security) but nothing. IT is like that for 2 months.
