Code 8024402f when running windows update

Hi,

I last ran the windows update successfully 2-3 days ago, but when I tried again this morning I got the message that windows could not search for new updates (Code 8024402f when running windows update).

 

I googled the problem and initially thought the solution would be easy when I found I wasn't the only one to experience this issue).

 

But I tried disabling automatic updates and deselecting all other checkboxes to no avail

I tried running microsoftfixit to no avail

I also ran windowsupdate.diagcab without any joy.

 

Hope someone out there can guide me through the process of getting windows update to work again - it's so frustrating.
