Guest Sheila Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Please help I have Windows Vista and recently I have an error code 800B100 windows cannot search for updates! I have spent the last week trying to fix it. I have been reading some of the other peoples questions on the same subject. And tryed deleting software destribution down loads. And it seems nothing seems to work. Ive noticed several people have had the same problem and nobody knows what the error code even is! Can anybody help

If yes, then try this: Open an Elevated Command Prompt - Click the Start button. In the Search box, type Command Prompt, and then, in the list of results, *right-click* Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator. Follow the prompts. At the Command Prompt type in and press Enter after *each* command [NOTE the spaces, please] net stop cryptsvc ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2 net start cryptsvc regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s exit See if the system will update now. I attempted your suggested work-around and received the same error from Windows update.
