nothing seems to work. Ive noticed several people have had the same problem

Is that the error code, Sheila ? If yes, then try this:

Open an Elevated Command Prompt -

Click the Start button. In the Search box, type Command Prompt, and

then, in the list of results, *right-click* Command Prompt, and then

click Run as Administrator. Follow the prompts.

At the Command Prompt type in and press Enter after *each* command

[NOTE the spaces, please]

net stop cryptsvc

ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2

net start cryptsvc

regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s

exit

See if the system will update now.

I've had the same problem (with Vista Ultimate 64-bit) since ~8/23 that

Sheila described. I attempted your suggested work-around and received the

same error from Windows update.
